You are the Most Important for Safety

,

When it comes to riding or driving off road (OHV) the industry does everything possible to ensure safety. Equipment is very advanced, riding gear is state of the art, and usually the trail signage will give the information we need to know what we are in store for. We are the ultimate backstop to being safe on the trails. Here are a few tips to keeping the tires of your OHV on the ground upright.

Know your machine. So, you just got home from the dealership with a shiny new OHV that has never been in the dirt. Your first task is not to get that thing dirty, it’s to take the time to understand your new ride. Learn about the clutch and brakes, feel what it is like to get comfortable sitting on it while it is sitting in the safety of your driveway. It is up to you to know how to ride or drive your OHV best.

Pick easy trails for the first couple times out. Know the area, take your time easing into learning your new OHV. Find an area that is flat and open to shift through your gears fir the first time, learn how your throttle releases on smaller inclines and declines, and learn how to shift your weight to counter balance your specific OHV. Never stop practicing.

Last but certainly not least always keep your OHV well maintained. change the oil when you’re suppose to, make sure your brakes are always good to go, and keep plenty of tread on your tires. Don’t wait for your OHV to break down before you maintain it.

Riding or driving with skill, a well maintained OHV, proper gear and a sense of adventure will ensure that you are the best factor into the equation of your safety.
